AGM deep/cycle marine
batteries. There is a plethora of incorrect and over-stated
performance information concerning this important subject. I've
included some websites and a contact expert to answer your
questions. It will take some time to read and digest everything, but
you'll benefit in the long-run.( and your T.M. batteries will last
longer)
Contact Jim Le from Trojan battery co. .He welcomes your questions,
so here is his contact information.800-423-6569/ext.3045 e-mail

Here's a brief of what he told me concerning AGM batteries
1-Reserve amps w/same # but different MFG.'s will have the same run
time 2-Trojan 175 amp.hr.vs Dual-pro 175-no difference in discharge
time with same amp draw 3-Most batteries are rated w/25 amp draw:EG.
175 R.A.H divided by 25 amp.draw=7 hrs.(of use) 4-However,this
projected math calculation is not accurate with a higher amp draw
(he said think of gas mileage in a car. Better @ 55mph then
75mph 5-These batteries ARE NOT meant to be discharged 100 %(that
shocked me) 6-He stated the big difference in AGM batteries (Between
MFG) is the life (charging cycles) of the battery

This site will answer some of your questions.
These AGM batteries were rated #2 in an independent test

No.#1 rated Agm batteries
Both of these sites require some time to research.

Batter Chargers
The battery charges you select is just as important as the
batteries. I prefer and use both of the dual-pro models available. I
use the Triple-Pro (three separate 10 amp output leads) for my 36
vlt.jet-boat application) and a Dual-Pro portable(2-10 amp. output
leads for my 24vlt system in my canoe. These charges are fully
automatic, as the charging rate drops as the voltage of the battery
increases. They shut-off automatically and will not trickle-charge
the battery. Trickle chargers can boil the battery and are not
recommended.
You can leave your on-board charger plugged info weeks at a time,
but please remember the charger is reading the voltage in the
battery and unless the voltage drops significantly, the charger will
not turn on. When my boat sits for more then 2 weeks (even with the
triple-pro automatic charger plugged-in) I operate my 24vlt. power
gator (up and down) 3-4 times to reduce the surface charge on the
battery .This turns on the auto-charger and brings the batteries up
to 100%.Even AGM batteries may crystallize inside and do loose some
charge when sitting (but not enough to turn the charger on. It is
not recommended to leave your auto-charger on for more then a month
without cycling the battery. |
